Why is the earthquake figurative? Why can't it be a real earthquake?

I thought the fade was speeding up and there was light on the horizon for me and my family. Then yesterday my wife gets love-bombed and is ready to go back to the dubs. I'm angry, cynical, depressed, disillusioned, you name it.
I don't know what to do for her. I want to respect her freedom but I don't want her to stay stuck in the cult and I don't want to leave without her except as a last resort.
It is probably just going to take time for the fade to work out but I can't take this back and forth business. I feel like just telling them to shove it and to hell with the part of my family who will shun me. Talk me off the ledge someone. Please.

After some googling, I found an article in which one of the victims' sister wouldn't reveal the church they were from, and it also mentioned that they were ordained last year. Doubtful that they were JWs. JWs LOVE the media attention this sort of thing brings, and they don't use the terms "church" or "ordained."

I hate how they count on the ignorance of the rank and file when interpreting scripture.
One of my pet gripes is with the interpretation of "as a witness to all the nations," as meaning that they don't need to witness to all people but rather just in all geographic areas in order to fulfill this scripture. This is wrong. When the Bible was written, nation-states as they presently function in the world didn't even exist. More importantly, the colloquial use of the term "nation" to mean "nation-state" with it's geographic borders and governments wasn't even what the word "nation" meant until recently, historically speaking. A "nation" meant (and still means) a group of people of the same ethnic family, usually speaking the same language.
So just because there are a handful of dubs in India doesn't mean they've witnessed to 1652 ethnic language groups there.
I'm in a particularly cynical and grumpy mood today. My wife got love-bombed yesterday and is almost ready to go back now. Ugh.

Make friends in the real world, at your university and wherever you find people you are interested in. Forget about "the truth" because it isn't; it's a lie. You have a life ahead of you, no matter how much you feel you have behind you. Keep looking forward. Many of us didn't realize the scam we were under until quite late in life. It doesn't matter if you're 30, 50, or 70; life begins today. There are people who will love and care for you. You'll find them if you want to.

Jevovah's Witnesses and mental health
by bubba flavel indoes anyone know if the society has specific policies on the handling of members with mental health problems?.
my grandfather, a brother in good standing since moses developed paranoid schizophrenia in his later years.
he got to the stage where he would knock people over in the street, place his hand on thier head and cast out evil spirits in the name of jehovah.. he was disfellowshiped and not long after he passed away.. this was related to me by a friend years later as i was unaware due to the shunning, i didn't even know he died.

Not all mental illness is physical, not in the broad definition of mental illness.

How can they still believe it?
by eyesthatsee ini've been watching this site for some time now - it's been a real help - but only recently started to post.
part of the journey i suppose.. 3rd generation jw, served as an elder for > 20 years, talks at dc, pioneer etc - started to fade in last 12 months - will post my story sometime.. anyway, occasionally i still go to a meeting to keep my zealous jw wife away from the elders.. at a recent public talk, the speaker referred to 'millions now living will never die', and said:.
although 'premature', this proclamation was made by zealous anointed ones i.e.

I look forward to the day I can laugh at it. I'm mostly bitter about it still.
Why do they still believe? The voice of the WT is as the voice of Saruman:
"Those who listened unwarily to that voice could seldom report the words that they heard; and if they did, they wondered, for little power remained in them. Mostly they remembered only that it was a delight to hear the voice speaking, all that it said seemed wise and reasonable, and desire awoke in them by swift agreement to seem wise themselves. When others spoke they seemed harsh and uncouth by contrast; and if they gainsaid the voice, anger was kindled in the hearts of those under the spell. For some the spell lasted only while the voice spoke to them, and when it spoke to another they smiled, as men do who see through a juggler's trick while others gape at it. For many the sound of the voice alone was enough to hold them enthralled; but for those whom it conquered the spell endured when they were far away, and ever they heard that soft voice whispering and urging them. But none were unmoved; none rejected its pleas and its commands without an effort of mind and will, so long as its master had control of it."

Jehovahs Witnesses Go to New Extremes
by Mythbuster inposted on wednesday, september 3rd, 2008. by marge floori.
springfield, mo.
- weary from pounding the pavement for hours a day only to have homeowners shut the door in their faces or not answer it all, jehovah's witnesses will start toting bullhorns to ensure their message is heard.. kingdom halls across the u.s. rejoiced at the directive issued by leading witness elders last week.. "we look at the bullhorns as an emergency tool needed to spread the word of the lord," said 18-year-old ronald plimpton.

Which book? Crisis of Conscience? Or In Search of Christian Freedom? I have read a few chapters of the former (secretly, of course) but none of the latter.
One day they'll proudly sit on my bookshelf.

Question: Are the short palms that grow as far north as Virginia Beach the same species that grow into tall trees in Florida but are just stunted due to the climate difference? Or are they a completely different species of palm?
My answer to the Santa Claus question is this: it isn't that parents feel the ends justify the means, it is that they were told the same lies as kids themselves and are going to make damned sure their kids go through the same charade they had to go through. Maybe subconsciously they feel it's a character builder to have their kids discover that absolutely anyone, including those who gave you birth, will lie to you. An important life lesson imparted but softened with gifts.
